The ritual

What is an essence, and do you actually need one?

"Essence" is one of those skincare words that sounds important and almost never gets explained. So here it is, plainly.

What an essence is

An essence is a light, watery step you use after cleansing and before your serum. Think of it as a thin layer of hydration: it puts a little water back into the skin and preps it for whatever comes next. That is really all it does. It is not a treatment, and it is not a miracle.

Some essences are thick, some are a fine mist. Ours, the Daily Balance Essence, is a mist you press in with your hands. No cotton pad needed.

Do you actually need one?

Honest answer: no, not necessarily. An essence is a nice-to-have, not a must. If your skin feels calm and comfortable with just a cleanser and a moisturizer, you do not need to add a step. When in doubt, use less.

An essence earns its place when your skin could use a little extra water, especially in dry air, or as a light first layer that helps the rest of your routine go on more smoothly.

Where it fits in your routine

The order is simpler than the internet makes it. After cleansing, go from thinnest to thickest:

cleanse → essence → serum → moisturizer → oil (last)

You do not need every step every day. Build the version that fits your skin. If layering still feels confusing, we broke it down in the order that matters.

What is in ours

The Daily Balance Essence is a lightweight mist with hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin hold on to water, plus prebiotics. It is made for daily use, morning and evening, and it supports your skin barrier without stripping it. Like everything we make, it is vegan, COSMOS-certified and made in the EU.

The short version

An essence is a light layer of hydration. Useful if your skin wants it, easy to skip if it does not. No rules, no ten-step pressure, just the step your skin actually needs.
